Ferðafélag Íslands er áhugamannafélag, tilgangur félagsins er að stuðla að ferðalögum á Íslandi og greiða fyrir þeim. Þetta gerir félagið meðal annars með skipulagningu fjölbreyttra ferða ásamt uppbyggingu og rekstri fjallaskála víða um land. Jafnframt með viðamiklu útgáfustarfi, merkingu gönguleiða og upplýsingagjöf.
